Saturday May 20th 2017 is the day to cement Manchester's place as the premier city of the UK beer scene

The Manchester Beer Audit will set out to record every draught beer (cask & keg) on sale in the pubs and bars of the City Of Manchester on Saturday 20th May 2017.

Teams of volunteers will visit over 300 pubs during the afternoon of the 20th, noting all the beers on sale.

When the data has been collated, we expect it to show that Manchester is Britain's premier beer city.

Get involved

The 300+ pubs and bars across the Manchester City Council area have been split into a number of routes with an average of around 8 pubs each.

Volunteers are needed to survey these pubs between noon & 6pm on Saturday 20th May.

The beers you find can be recorded via an app via this website or on paper survey forms.

Your questions answered:

What area will the audit cover:

The main audit will cover all pubs in the Manchester City Council area - from Wythenshawe to Blackley, Cholton to Openshaw.

Why not all of Greater Manchester?

This is the first year of what we hope will become a regular event. In future years, we hope to expand the surveyed area. From small acorns....

Do we have to try all the beers?

We estimate there are in excess of 600 cask beer pumps alone in the city, so drinking every beer you find is NOT recommended. However, the audit is meant to be a social event with a purpose so some samples on route would be your reward.

Can my friends and I take part?

If you and a group of friends want to volunteer to take on a route (10 - 15 pubs) then please get in touch.

I'm on my own, can I join in?

If you want to join a team of like minded beer fans, just drop us a line and let us know and we'll team you up with others and let you know how to contact them and where to meet.

Can I turn up on the day?

There will be a couple of meeting points in the city centre for volunteers who want to turn up on the day.

How do I submit the beers we find?

Each team will be able to log in to this site and use our in built app. Alternatively, paper forms with the name and address of pubs to visit can be provided.

At the end of the day, there will be a gathering in the city centre for all surveyors where forms can be submitted.

Can we survey other areas?

If you are drinking in other areas of Greater Manchester on the day and want to let us know the beers you find, you can send us an e-mail via the contact form. if you think you have enough friends to cover a whole area - let us know.

When will the results be announced?

We hope to have the results out in time for Manchester Beer Week
